Washington, who claims to have never had a black eye in his life, spilled the details the encounter:
There’s a scene where I reach over to try to choke him while I have handcuffs on. We were flying around in the car. It just happened that as I was reaching forward he was flying back … and POW.”
The Wolverine and Green Lantern star admitted that when the injury to his veteran co-star’s eye happened, he blushed and then felt remorseful, according to People:
I’m glad I was your first,” Reynolds joked to Washington. “If it had to be anyone, it was an apologetic Canadian.”
Even though the shiner was a freak accident, Reynolds didn’t shy away from a little good hearted bragging:
That was my early retirement. I’ve given Denzel Washington a black eye and I should probably go home.”
In the film Reynolds plays a newby C.I.A. agent who is tasked to keep careful tabs on Washington, who plays a famed fugitive in a safe house. When the safe house is attacked, the agent finds himself on the run with his charge.
