Sara Butler (pictured) stripped naked along with her two adult daughters, Joanne and Bessie, and teen son outside a Philadelphia school and is now blaming her lupus medications for the occurrence.  Upper Darby police arrested and charged the Mom with simple assault, corrupting the morals of a minor, indecent exposure, and disorderly conduct. Butler’s daughters were also charged with the latter two offenses, reports the Delco Times.

The 44-year-old woman thought that the world was ending, so at 10 a.m. on the morning of March 16th, she, along with children Joanne, 23; Bessie, 22; and her 14-year-old son reportedly drove to Upper Darby High School in southwest Philadelphia. Butler had also intended to pick up another one of her children from the school, but officials would not allow her to do so because she is not the custodial parent.

According to Upper Darby police, when the school would not release her child, Butler and her family went outside, laid down on the pavement at the entrance of the building, and began singing religious songs. School officials demanded that the family leave the premises, but Butler and her clan returned three times.

At around 1 p.m., Butler reportedly pulled in to the school’s parking lot in a van, and when she and her family exited the vehicle, they began to strip between two parked cars.

Upper Darby police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told the Delco Times, “They were running around the lot for five to 10 minutes,” he said.  “When police got there, they were in a van and locked their arms in defiant protest. They were chanting, ‘Jesus is Lord.’ When we got them back to the police station, we gave them their clothes and the Mom refused to put her clothes on.”

Butler and Bessie were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Unfortunately for Butler, the entire episode was caught on film by students inside the high school and the tape was posted on YouTube.

Butler’s lawyer, Sharmil McKee, contends that his client had experienced a psychotic episode, which he says was the direct result of some contradictory medications she had been prescribed to treat her lupus.

The attorney also told Delco Times that his client truly believed that “in order to please the Lord, Miss Butler felt that she needed to exit the world in the same manner that Adam and Eve entered the world, and to do so, she needed to be naked.”

According to the attorney, Butler does not suffer from any psychological disorders, has no criminal background, and has been taken off the medications that triggered the bizarre episode.

“She is hugely embarrassed and regrets the incident, regrets the conduct that brought about these charges,” said McKee.

When the family was brought before a judge at the court hearing, he reportedly asked daughters Joanne and Bessie why they chose to follow their mother’s lead — as opposed to stepping in and trying to dissuade her.  The women told the judge they had no reason to doubt their mother and that she knew best how they could meet their maker.

The young women apologized to the judge, and he gave them a year’s probation and orders to stay away from the high school.  Butler was given a concurrent probationary sentence and slapped with a $500 fine.
