Former NFL player Kordell Stewart (pictured right) has reportedly filed for divorce from his reality TV show wife Porsha Williams-Stewart (pictured), who co-stars on the Bravo hit “Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA).”  The ex-Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback reportedly filed the legal documents on Friday at the Superior Court of Fulton County in Atlanta, stating that his marriage was “irretrievably broken,” according to People.

News of the couple’s breakup comes as a shocker to fans who have watched the pair go through the difficulties of trying to have a baby.  Viewers have also witnessed Porsha, 31, wanting to continue her charity work and 40-year-old Kordell’s insisting that she choose between a career and motherhood.

Kordell has one son from a previous marriage.

Not surprisingly, Porsha and  Kordell’s marriage have been gossiped about by ‘RHOA’ cast members. NeNe Leakes, one of the original ‘RHOA’ co-stars, predicted doom and gloom about the couple’s future together. In her “Is Kordell Controlling” Bravo blog:

We’ve all been around her and heard her say things that sound like she’s being controlled.”

The statuesque and very vocal diva went on to surmise:

Maybe Kordell feels the need to control her, because he knows what he’s working with.  …Based off everything I’ve seen and heard myself, it appears that Kordell is talking to his daughter and not his wife! Porsha can’t seem to do much without getting permission from Kordell.

Kordell’s lawyer, Shiel Edlin, released a statement that said that filing for divorce was “a very difficult decision” for the former player. As far as what will be divided among the pair after just two years of marriage, according to Kordell, “there are no marital assets subject to division,” which could suggest there is a pre-nup being dug up.

Porsha, who thought her husband was as committed to saving their marriage as she claims to be, says she found out about the divorce from the tabloids. The following statement was released to the press on Tuesday on behalf of the granddaughter of the late-civil rights luminary Hosea Williams regarding her impending marital breakup:

Mrs. Stewart is disappointed about her husband’s recent filing for divorce. Mrs. Stewart had held off on filing for a divorce herself and remained committed to the marriage because Mr. Stewart promised to work on the marriage with her.

Instead, he misled her and she found out about the filing in the media. Mrs. Stewart hopes to resolve these personal issues privately with the support of her family, friends and strong faith.

Sound off!
