When two 17-year-old teen girls were stopped for suspected shoplifting in New York’s Herald Square, security discovered a dead fetus in one of their shopping bag, reports the NY Daily News.

Security guards spotted the two girls sneaking lingerie off of shelves and called police, who were stunned by the discovery.

According to neighbors, the teen who was discovered with the baby said that she had a miscarriage. She already has one young son and police sources say that she was between 6 1/2 months and full term.

The fetus appeared unharmed.

“She’s a good girl. I can’t believe she would do that,” said Zami Ford, 17, [the teen’s neighbor]. “Who the hell would do that? That’s sickening.

“She goes to school. She does what she has to do. She’s no problem,” Ford said. “We grew up together. I’ve known her since she was little. She was probably nervous and didn’t know what to do. She would never hurt anyone.”

The teen was taken out of Victoria’s Secret in a wheelchair and admitted into Bellevue Hospital for examination.

An autopsy will be conducted to confirm [the teen’s] story, sources said.

The drama unfolded just after 1 p.m. in the middle of one of the city’s busiest shopping districts.

The Victoria’s Secret security guard confronted [the teen] and her friend, also 17, after he suspected them of stealing. He took them into a back room and called police.

Officers who responded to the store discovered the fetus when they searched the two teenagers’ bags, sources said. The fetus was found in a black plastic bag and hastily wrapped in clothes. The plastic bag was in the bottom of another bag and covered with the stolen undergarments, a source said.

Both teens were charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
