If you ask most people who sang the best rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl, most will tell you Whitney Houston without batting an eye. Not Roland Martin. During “NewsOne Now“, Martin gave Houston her props, saying the singer was pretty good but added that her performance was not live.

He expanded the debate by asking who delivered the best performance of the song during any sports half time show. As far as Martin is concerned, Marvin Gaye tops the list in his mind.

Listen to Martin make the case for why the man known for “Sexual Healing” not only sang the best rendition of the national anthem, but “pimped it out” too.

Be sure to tune in to NewsOne Now with Roland Martin, weekdays at 7 a.m. EST.
