Although African Americans make up just 13 percent of the U.S. population, we account for 33 percent of the missing in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s database. Cases involving African Americans also tend to receive less media coverage than missing Whites, with missing men of color getting even less attention.

NewsOne has partnered with the Black and Missing Foundation to focus on the crisis of missing African Americans.

To be a part of the solution, NewsOne will profile a missing person weekly and provide tips about how to keep your loved ones safe and what to do if someone goes missing.

Circumstances of Disappearance: When Scott failed to pick up her two children, a one-year-old boy and three-year-old girl from school, her family knew something had to be terribly wrong.

“She’d never leave the kids at school,” Scott’s mom Kengreal Allen Scott told CBS News Miami.  “She would never leave them at school. Leave them with someone she could have trusted, possibility, but never at school.”

Police also feel that there’s foul play at work in Scott’s disappearance. On Tuesday, Scott’s car was found by Miami Police in Liberty City, Fort Lauderdale Police told NewsOne, but there was no sign of Scott.

“The vehicle is in the custody of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. Detectives are not releasing any details regarding the condition of the vehicle or its contents,” Fort Lauderdale Police spokesperson DeAnna Greenlaw said in a statement.

“Due to the length of time that Scott has been missing, detectives have now categorized this investigation as a missing endangered person. Detectives are following up with all leads and would like to speak to any of Scott’s acquaintances to attempt to gather more information surrounding her disappearance,” Greenlaw continued in the statement.

Scott’s family suspects that an ex-boyfriend knows what happened to her, according NBC 6 South Florida.

The station reports:

“I know he has my child,” Trukita’s mom Kengeral Allen Scott said. “Because of the threats he made against my child. He is constantly following her. Told her if he couldn’t have her, no one else would.”

(The ex-boyfriend in question) is no stranger to the family or to law enforcement. Just a few weeks ago, he was shown on surveillance video allegedly trying to kidnap a high school girl from a bus stop in Fort Lauderdale. (He) also has three previous kidnapping charges and Trukita’s family said they can’t find any sign of him. “We spoke to him briefly,” Trukita’s father Charles Scott said. “He hung up the phone. He wouldn’t answer the phone….He took off.”

Scott’s fiance Al Livingston recalled the threats he says his wife-to-be received from an ex-boyfriend.

“Every day he used to call her,” Livingston continued. “I remember [telling him], ‘Why are you still calling her? Why don’t you stop?’ It just got to a point where … I could see she was uncomfortable with him.”

Scott’s mother said she last saw her daughter after she had taken her to run some errands. Scott then left her mother’s Miami Gardens home to pick up her children at her Fort Lauderdale home but never arrived. Given her past behavior, Scott’s family has a hard time believing she would not be in contact with them. The engaged Scott was hoping to become a police officer.

“She’s never done that before,” said Charles Scott, Trukita’s father. “If you ever called her, and she didn’t answer her phone, it’s because it was in her car, in her purse or [she was] at work, she would always call you back. ‘Hey, Daddy, you called me. What’s up?'”

Despite the concerns of the Scott family, police have not named any suspects or persons of interest in the case, Greenlaw told NewsOne.

Police do say they plan to interview the ex-boyfriend in question as well as a few other people.

“We understand the family, how distraught and sad and how horrific of a situation they are in right now,” Greenlaw said. “Unfortunately, we do not have that physical evidence to confirm that anyone is behind her disappearance.”

But the family is convinced an ex-boyfriend is involved.

“I’m 100 percent, 200 percent sure that he has my child,” said Scott’s mother.

Now the family is trying to maintain hope despite their grave concerns. Scott’s three-year-old daughter thinks her mother is at work.

“I just want my wife. That’s all,” said Livingston.
