If you have a child in school, chances are you’ve heard about Common Core academic standards. Many people are unclear, however, on what they mean for our children. On the Oct. 3 edition of The Tom Joyner Morning Show, Roland Martin spoke with Marc Morial, the president and CEO of National Urban League, about the  misunderstandings around Common Core.

As opposed to every school district having a separate set of expectations, 44 states and the district of Columbia got together and adopted a common set of academic standards, Morial explained. “The key is that the expectations for our children, and the effort to help our kids reach those expectations, ought to be the same with every other other child in America.”
