Shanice Clark (pictured), a senior at California University of Pennsylvania and a star on her collegiate basketball team, was found dead in her dorm apartment after she aspirated chewing gum while sleeping, according to The Toronto Sun. Aspiration has to do with the inhalation of liquid, food, or stomach contents in to the windpipe.

When Clark’s body was discovered, medical personnel immediately tried reviving her via CPR methods. Clark was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead a little more than an hour after her body was discovered. The incident was labeled an “accidental death.”
According to Cal U Athletics director Karen Hjerpe, “Shanice was a bright student and talented player. Her smile and personality will be missed.”
The 6-foot 21-year-old beauty, who hailed from Toronto, Canada, was a Communications major and had transferred to Cal U from Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, after a two-year stint there. Clark played the position of a forward on the women’s basketball team at her school. She was also a star player at Cedarbrae Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, Ontario, before coming to the United States to not only study but also continue wowing those who admired her skills on the basketball court.
Clark’s death is still under investigation by the Washington County coroner.
