NYU and Columbia University students spotted Malia Obama with sister Sasha and First Lady Michelle Obama (pictured) touring their campuses Friday. This begs the obvious question: Could one of the first daughters be coming to New York City for college?
Bwog.com, a Columbia student blog, posted images and video of the girls and their mother eating at the Community Food and Juice restaurant just blocks from the school.
Shortly after the family left, Michelle was spotted touring Columbia’s Diana Center. As one might expect, security was tight while the FLOTUS exited through a specific gate into a waiting SUV.

The visit apparently kept the eldest Obama daughter in mind, as Malia has been seen touring colleges–including UC Berkeley and Stanford–where fellow first daughter Chelsea Clinton earned her undergraduate degree.
Though he didn’t accompany his family, President Barack Obama remarked about Malia’s search at an Indianapolis community college:
“Malia’s now at the age where she’s starting to look at colleges, and I said, ‘You know, these days I hear everybody’s looking for fancy gyms and gourmet food, and, you know, really spiffy dorms, and let me tell you, when I was in college, you know, the college I started at, Occidental College, you know — it did have a gym, but, but like, the weight room was, you know, it was like a medicine ball, and, you know, you had, you had like–I mean it wasn’t fancy.”
The president is already gearing up for his 16-year-old’s college journey.
Speaking at last year’s commencement for Worcester Technical High School in Massachusetts, he noted that “part of the reason I’m here is because I’ve got to practice, because Malia is graduating in two years. So I’m trying to get used to not choking up and crying and embarrassing her. So this is sort of my trial run.”
An NYU choice would be following in the family footsteps for Malia; her dad graduated from the Ivy League college in the 1980s.
