Natalie Cole’s family revealed her cause of death in a statement on Thursday.

The family told the Associated Press that the legendary singer died of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension, which led to heart failure.

The statement reads:

“(Cole) responded well to pulmonary arterial hypertension-specific agents over many years, during which she performed many concerts world-wide, but eventually succumbed to intractable right heart failure, an outcome that unfortunately commonly occurs in this progressive disorder.”

The singer also struggled with drug problems and hepatitis that led to a kidney transplant, writes the news outlet.

Cole died last week at the age of 65.
