Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed a bill on Thursday that placed more restrictions on abortion. Under the new regulations, women will not be able to undergo the procedure if they discover that their child will be born with an abnormality. Gov. Pence said the bill is a “comprehensive pro-life measure.” “HEA 1337 will ensure the dignified final treatment of the unborn and prohibits abortions that are based only on the unborn child’s sex, race, color, national origin, ancestry, or disability, including Down syndrome,” he said. “Some of my most precious moments as Governor have been with families of children with disabilities, especially those raising children with Down syndrome.” Anti-abortion groups applauded Gov. Pence’s decision. “We are pleased that our state values life no matter an individual’s potential disability, gender or race,” said Mike Fichter, President of Indiana Right to Life. Three years ago, North Dakota passed a similar law. Read more.

Chicago’s Black Caucus Threatens to Withhold Votes for Next Police Leader

On Thursday, members of the Chicago City Council’s Black Caucus declared that they would withhold their votes for the city’s next police superintendent if they don’t get the opportunity to meet with all three finalists before Mayor Rahm Emanuel makes his decision. The caucus usually meets the new superintendent after the mayor makes his pick; however, taking into account the contentious relationship between police officials and communities of color, the group believes it is essential to meet the nominees prior to their election. “It’s beyond time. We should have been doing it a long time ago. I’m glad we’re [demanding] it now. We should question them. The public demands us to question and challenge the individuals coming before us,” said Ald. Roderick Sawyer, chairman of the City Council’s Black Caucus. “We want somebody that can restore trust in the police department. We want somebody that has the trust of the rank-and-file. Someone that knows Chicago and knows how the police department works here. We need to ask questions to be sure that, whoever that choice is, could subscribe to these things that we’re asking. Right now, we’re almost as much in the dark as you are.” Next week, Mayor Emanuel will decide whether to choose from one of the three finalists, or start the search for a superintendent all over again. Ben Carson Gets Pounded on “The View” for Endorsing Donald Trump

During a recent appearance on The View, Ben Carson felt the wrath of the show’s hosts after announcing he will endorse Donald Trump. “When I dropped out, my first choice went with me. I was gonna remain neutral, but then I realized that the political establishment was aligning to protect their turf,” he said. “And they don’t like the idea of people who are not beholden to them and who cannot be controlled coming into Washington, D.C., and that was one of the reasons they didn’t like me very much, but I was easier to get rid of than Donald Trump.” Whoopi Goldberg asked why he would associate himself with someone known for making outlandish and derogatory remarks. “You have to look at the good and the bad. There is no perfect person,” Carson responded. “Has he said some things that I wouldn’t say or that you wouldn’t say? Of course. I always say one of the ways that you measure a person is [by] looking at their children, and how their children act. The fact of the matter is, they have been raised very well, they’re very respectful.” Still not sold on Carson’s reasoning, Goldberg said, “This guy is, I’m sorry, he’s a racist, and he’s not good for the country. You’re Ben Carson, you’re so much better than this!” Read more.
