More than five months after Botham Jean was gunned down in his own home through no fault of his own, his mourning mother was still in disbelief about the questionable circumstances surrounding the police shooting that took the life of her 26-year-old son in Dallas. Allison Jean recently spoke with a radio station in her native St. Lucia to discuss all that she and her family have had to deal with since that fateful night in September when Amber Guyger illegally entered Botham’s apartment and fired shots into an innocent man after implausibly confusing his apartment for her own.

“He was not on the road. He was not walking. He wasn’t driving. He wasn’t running,” Allison Jean told Radio Caribbean International’s show “She Speaks” in an interview released Tuesday. “Most of the other murders that you see in the United States you hear that they say ‘He had something that looked like a gun’ or ‘He had something that looked like a weapon.’ My son was just sitting on his couch waiting to watch a football match at 10 O’ clock and he did not see 10 O’ clock.”
But Allison Jean saved her strongest comments for Guyger, as merely seeing images of her son’s killer gives her “bouts of anger,” she told Radio Caribbean International.
“When I see – especially when I see her in videos walking like a human being and I don’t have my son that I could hug and I can be with,” an emotional Allison Jean said. “So I have my moments. There are times before I go to bed that I just have to cry myself to sleep.”

Allison Jean may have experienced those feelings a couple of weeks ago when Guyger, who has since been indicted for murder, showed up at court sporting a “new look” and “softer appearance,” which “is common for defendants trying to win over a judge and jury, legal experts say,” the Dallas Morning News reported Jan. 29.
Tuesday interview was only the most recent time Allison Jean reserved the strongest of language for Guyger. Just about one week after Botham was killed, his mother called Guyger “the devil” in response to irrelevant reports her son had marijuana in his apartment.
“To have my son smeared in such a way, I think shows that the persons who are really nasty, who are really dirty and are going to cover up for the devil, Amber Guyger,” Allison Jean said during a press conference Sept. 15. “Give me justice for my son because he does not deserve what he got. I will not sit back and see that justice does not prevail.”
Allison Jean and her husband in October sued the city of Dallas, including the police department and the district attorney’s office “to not just focus on how their son died, but to change how police officers are trained about when to fire their weapons,” the Dallas Morning News wrote.
