Bill Cosby is reportedly doing amazingly well behind bars in part because of the daily routines credited with helping him to survive incarceration. The 81-year-old convicted sex offender has apparently been making every effort not to just maintain good health but also to leave prison in better physical condition than he entered.

The disgraced comedian, who has been serving a three- to 10-year prison sentence for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004, wakes up at 3:30 every morning to work out, Cosby’s spokesman Andrew Wyatt told WCAU-TV on Tuesday.

After getting up before dawn, Cosby does leg lifts and push-ups in his cell. At mealtimes, he doesn’t eat bread or dessert, and the comedian has finally given up coffee after years of not being able to quit his caffeine habit. Since meals are packed with sodium, Cosby rinses it off in water before eating. His weight is now down to 195 pounds, Wyatt noted.

Judge Steven T. O’Neill sentence Cosby in September 2018 to serve three to 10 years in prison. He was found guilty last April at a re-trial of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand, a former Temple University coach, in 2004. The court also determined that Cosby would be labeled as a sexually violent predator, a point of contention that defense attorneys were arguing against. He is serving his sentence at maximum-security SCI Phoenix facility outside Philadelphia.

Cosby’s fall from grace has been especially notable because he built his career on a clean, family-friendly image that was shredded when he was indicted and ultimately arrested on Constand’s accusation that had gone all but ignored until Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele won his election in 2015 and vowed to finish the job he said his predecessor should have started.

Allegations of the TV star having spent decades drugging and sexually assaulting women were initially suppressed before the claims grew louder and more abundant, ultimately reaching as many as 60 women accusing him.

Cosby also revealed through his spokesman that his wife, Camille Cosby, has not visited him while he has been incarcerated. However, the couple, which has been married for 55 years, speak on the phone three times a day. He denied that there are any problems with their relationship. Cosby prefers it that way to avoid visits from his wife and daughters to become a media circus event.
