A woman is dead after a hit-and-run on Detroit’s east side that took place early Wednesday morning. The incident happened on Gratiot Avenue near Glenwood Street. At this time authorities are still working to learn her identity but the victim’s autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

According to Fox 2, the medical examiner will look for identifying marks to find out more about who she was and to help her family come forward. Police say she is a black woman possibly in her mid-30s. The police are also talking to witnesses, including a young male driver who stopped to help.

Police say he saw the woman lying in the road but when he pulled over, his car was rear ended by a third driver and his car was pushed over the victim a second time. No description of the suspected vehicle has been released at this time.
