ATHENS, Ga. — A thief apparently smashed into an Athens home and left notes wishing the owner a Merry Christmas.

A police report said an officer noticed the broken window while patrolling Sunday.

Inside the ransacked home, police officers found notes left on two beds reading, “thank you merry christmas.” The Athens Banner-Herald reports that the notes were scrawled on white cards with a yellow marker.

Police were not immediately sure what was missing since the residents were traveling.
