Detroit— Police are questioning a “person of interest” in connection with a series of rapes that has terrorized women on the city’s east side.

Investigators picked up man for questioning today, although he hasn’t been placed under arrest, Detroit Police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens said.

“At this point, we’re just calling him a person of interest,” Stephens said. “We picked him up today, although I don’t have any further details.”

Police believe one man has been responsible for at least seven rapes since Jan. 1, along with another attack.

The assaults occurred between 7:40 p.m. and 6:15 a.m., police said. The women — ages 17 to 33 years old and all Detroit residents but one — were alone at the time of the attacks and most of the victims were walking near a bus stop. Most of the women were taken to another location where they were assaulted and then released, police said.
