Police Brutality

Indianapolis Sgt. Eric Huxley has been charged with one felony count each of official misconduct and battery after body camera footage showed him kicking 39-year-old Jermaine Vaughn in the face while he was handcuffed.

Attorneys for Greg and Travis McMichael are arguing the jury should know that Ahmaud Arbery was on probation on the day of his killing. Prosecutors argued, once again, that Arbery's past is irrelevant and that the McMichaels had no way of knowing about it when they chased after him.

After Jelani Day’s body had been identified, his mother, Carmen Bolden Day, was not immediately allowed to view the body, which she discovered was missing virtually all its organs after a second autopsy was performed at the family’s request.

The system Is not broken; it is working as Intended. Internal guidance for the Department of Justice explained that action against law enforcement is governed by a federal criminal statute 18 U.S.C. § 242, which states in part: "Whoever, under color of any law, …willfully subjects any person…to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States [shall be guilty of a crime]."

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law the Kenneth Ross Jr. Decertification Act of 2021, a measure that provides "a pathway for revoking the licenses of law enforcement officers who commit serious misconduct, even if it does not rise to the level of criminal charges

27-year-old Ian Mackenzie Cranston is now charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon in the shooting death of 22-year-old Barry Washington Jr., who he allegedly shot for complimenting his girlfriend.

New York’s ABC News reported the sculptures were a part of an exhibition called “See Injustice” by artist Chris Carnabuci. The installation is a project of the organization CONFRONTART.

When shots were fired in Minneapolis as the Third Precinct police station burned, people on the ground insisted the gunshots were the result of right-wing agitators. They were right. 

Music

Janelle Monáe recently released a 17-minute long collaborative tribute song called “Say Her Name” in honor of 61 Black women and girls, from ages 7 to 93, who’ve lost their lives due to police violence.

"Senator Scott knows that is a talking point that is used," Bass told Capehart. "And the sad thing about the state of our politics in the country right now is one does not have to tell the truth, one can just make a statement true or false."

The second incident came just a day after filing a lawsuit against LAPD for its disproportionate response to an initial "swatting" incident last August.
