On April 12, last year, 27-year-old Black man Miles Jackson was shot and killed by police officers in a Columbus, Ohio, emergency room after a gun he allegedly had tucked in his pants went off. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide saying he was shot 20 times in his head, chest, and abdomen.

31-year-old Walter Hutchins was shot and killed last in Houston, Texas, by bounty hunters attempting to execute a warrant. Surveillance video posted to Instagram by famed Houston Music Executive J Prince has many people saying Hutchins was ambushed by plainclothes authorities in unmarked cars.

26-year-old Andrew Walls has been charged with possession of a firearm while intoxicated and assault after he was caught on camera punching a Black woman in the mouth after repeatedly using the n-word.

Research over the past several years found that Stand Your Ground laws led to an increase in firearm homicides.

Crime

15-year-old Martell Williams said police in Waukegan, Illinois, arrested him at school and coerced him into a false confession for attempted murder. He also said a cop offered him McDonald's in exchange for his confession.

Portland police have identified 43-year-old Benjamin Smith as the man who allegedly opened fire on Portland demonstrators who were protesting police killings of Black people including Amir Locke.

Crime

In October 2015, Black transgender woman Ju’Zema Goldring was arrested for jaywalking by Atlanta cops who also falsified cocaine charges against her by cutting up a stress ball and calling the insides cocaine even though they tested negative for it. Goldring was awarded $1.5 million in her lawsuit against the city.
