Washington — In a new poll released by the Pew Research Center, 48 percent of Americans said they would prefer to see President Obama re-elected in 2012 than a Republican candidate.

The numbers are a positive for Obama as we enter the stretch run of his first term as president.

Thirty-five percent of Americans prefer a Republican, while sixteen percent were undecided.

In 2003, a similar poll was conducted and the same amount of people wanted President Bush re-elected and a Democrat in office.
