The Black Ballot – Episode 15: American Requiem

There was good and bad things that came from our First Black President. However, in addition to that, because he was black, there were repercussions that came his way also. Shelby v Holder essentially being unearthed was a big hit to African Americans. Trump began his Birther movement and was happy his rhetoric made him “more popular”. When Obama made him the joke of the White House Correspondents dinner, many believe this was the beginning of Trump’s quest for revenge. He built a base that Hillary Clinton would call “Deplorables” and America began to FEEL divided. Cable TV would find far right homes in FOX and MSNBC on the left. Newspapers were taking stronger stances on how they leaned like never before and smartphones made social media a 24-hour resource of information which in addition to Russian influence transformed American politics and our election on a new path that had never been seen before.
