The young hip-hop performer, who was only 25-years-young, was admitted to the hospital on June 5th for unknown reasons and later went in to cardiac arrest, which led to his untimely death.

Cali Swag District member Corey “Smooth Da General” Fowler took to Twitter to comment about the passing of his dear friend stating,

“Sickle cell took my brother away from me today…with that being said I’m proud to know that with that disease he made the best of his life.”

The rap brotherhood was made up of four members, Childs, Fowler, Chante Lee, Montae Talbert, who were discovered by a former Death Row Records artist.  The group’s 2010 debut album produced the aforementioned mega-selling single “Teach Me How To Dougie.”    The group’s song led to one of the most-popular dance crazes of the time, the dougie. The dance was even publicly demonstrated by First Lady Michelle Obama, who performed the dance at various venues when she was promoting her “Let’s Move” fitness initiative.

Unfortunately, tragedy has already struck Cali Swag District, and it occurred just one year after they exploded on to the scene: Talbert was shot to death on May 15, 2011.  The 22-year-old group member was the victim of a drive-by shooting that took place outside of a liquor store in Inglewood, Calif. Talbert had been sitting in his vehicle when he was shot twice in the head.
