Ingrid Williams, the wife of Oklahoma City Thunder Associate Head Coach Monty Williams, died following a car accident Wednesday.

The fatal crash occurred on Tuesday night near Oklahoma City when a car crossed the line and collided with her SUV. The other driver, Susannah Donaldson, had her dog on her lap while driving and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Oklahoman reports that three of Williams’ five kids were in the car with her at the time, but were unharmed.

During his basketball career, Monty Williams overcame all odds when he averaged 22 points at Notre Dame and was drafted by the New York Knicks in the first round despite a pre-existing heart condition. After retiring due to chronic knee problems in 2003, he went on to coach the New Orleans Hornets for five years before being fired at the end of the 2014-2015 NBA season. He is now part of the Oklahoma Thunder coaching staff.

The team released the following statement:

The Thunder organization has heavy hearts tonight with the news of Ingrid’s passing. Words cannot adequately describe how deep our sorrow is for the loss of Monty’s wife. Our thoughts and prayers are with Monty and his family, and we will support him in every way possible. We know the entire community of Oklahoma City has them in their prayers.”

New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis expressed his condolences in a tweet:

The league has responded with overwhelming sadness. Clippers coach Doc Rivers was teary-eyed when he learned of Ingrid’s death.

Alvin Gentry, head coach of the Pelicans, also got choked up when talking to the media about the unfortunate accident.

Prayers and our deepest condolences to Monty and his children during this difficult time.
