Gabby Douglas will mark her debut as a judge at the upcoming 2017 Miss America pageant. Douglas was announced as a guest judge on Monday. “The contestants are a great example of strong women across America and I especially look forward to hearing the platforms that each of them will represent!” she said. Ryan Lochte Loses Endorsements

Embattled swimmer Ryan Lochte has lost four major endorsements in the aftermath of his robbery narrative, which he later admitted was false. Speedo, Polo Ralph Lauren, Gentle Hair Removal, and mattress maker Airweave announced plans Monday to sever ties with the Olympian. Speedo was the first company to end its relationship with Lochte. He responded in a statement thanking Speedo for the opportunity to serve as a spokesperson. Read more.


Zendaya To Play First Black Mary Jane In New ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot

Disney teen sensation Zendaya Coleman, 19, was announced as the lead in the new reboot for the Spider-Man franchise. Coleman will play Mary Jane Watson, Spidey’s love interest, in the new flick. The announcement makes cinematic and comic history — Coleman is the first Black woman to star as Mary Jane. She will play opposite British actor Tom Holland, who also starred as Spider-Man in the recent Captain America: Civil War movie. Read more.


VA Governor Restores Voting Rights To Nearly 13,000 Ex-Felons

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced a decision Monday to re-enfranchise thousands of felons’ voting rights, a population that is disproportionately African-American. The move may grant the group and thousands more the ability to vote in the upcoming November elections. McAuliffe made the announcement Monday at Richmond’s civil rights museum. “Restoring the rights of Virginians who have served their time and live, work and pay taxes in our communities is one of the pressing civil rights issues of our day,” McAuliffe said. “I have met these men and women and know how sincerely they want to contribute to our society as full citizens again.” Read more.
