A NewsOne Exclusive

When Bill Cosby announced his plans to release a rap album, the widespread reaction was one of confusion. Best known for his role as lovable Dad Cliff Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” his iconic Jell-O Pudding commercials, and, most recently, impassioned speeches on how the Black community can solve its problems, Cosby seemed an unlikely hip-hop enthusiast. But, acting as the creative force behind the album, he brought together three rappers to create “Bill Cosby Presents The Cosnarati: State of Emergency.”

In this exclusive interview with NewsOne, Cosby and The Cosnarati reveal how “State of Emergency” will stack up against the rest of today’s hip-hop albums, the inspiration for the project, and why Cosby’s message isn’t always well-received among Black Americans.

The album hits stores November 24.

I understand the concept but couldn’t he just have wrote another book or gave a speech or something? He need to sit his old ass down somewhere.

I suspect the rap message will be over most peoples heads. Wonder how this rap group will be different from any others who have claimed they would change the game? I will say with Bill using his name it helps people understand who the album is for(kids, until further notice). Would have been nice to know what cosnarati mean? An extension of our struggle?

Its unfortunate, that many of our people have allowed the media to disrupt our connection with Bill Cosby. He hasnt said anything about the State of the Black Community and our youth, that other Elder’s havent said. We lash out at that brother, because he calls on our own self action to combat what plagues are families, and communities, because we as a collective have grown dependent on handouts and help from organizations and government. I will buy this Album, because I know that it will have meaning behind it. Those who consider Brother Cosby a noodle, sell-out or what have you, might need to check yourself and your current condition and state of mind, because apparently you lack the real picture and might be living in triple stage darkeness.

I have not heard the album. I may not like it, but I love Bill Cosby’s messages. He tells it like it is. He is trying to get n*ggas to act like black people. Which is a hard feat to do.

I grew up watching Bill Cosby, and what I seen helped me out a lot in my life. I would buy it, if for nothing else to see what information he is putting out now. Who knows, it may still help me out at this late stage in my life.

Well I’m glad Cosby wants to help…. but… went to listen to the music and…. I wanna like it…. but I don’t. The good thing is its about trying to empower. The bad part is its a downer album and the production is horrible. I’ve heard better beats from a Casio Keyboard… He needs to rethink his strategy on this one. You can make GOOD positive music. DMX has made some positive songs, Kanye has made positive songs, R kelly, pissin on the kids azz, has made positive music, Mary Mary…

Long story short… Get some mafukas wit TALENT to make your music man and maybe people will listen…
