I don’t think it has anything to do with racism. I feel it is due to not having the least amount of support, financial stability and resources. Many black fathers are dead, in jail, in the streets, deadbeats or having multiple children with multiple women and only have pennies to spare. I don’t think it would be a smart idea to have a child that you cannot support without government assistance. We must break the cycle and protect ourselves better from unplanned pregnancies. At some point we have to take responsibility for our actions in regards to unprotected sex and plan better. Quit blaming everything on racism.

I can understand her point but at the same time these abortions werent forced, the parents chose to have them.

I agree with you at XL_611 unfortunately internalized oppression has many of our people locked and loaded and the targets are our own people, even through abortion. The whole targeting teenage pregnancy can also be delt with if we ourselves would stop promotion so much sexy and sponsoring the media industry and advertises it to our own community @ lackMiss62. Also the only reason why teenage pregnancy is a problem is because we as Black people refuse to adequately fight the system of oppression. So we rather tell teens not to have children, rather than show them love through building our communities and give them a fighting chance. Let’s be part of the solution not the problem.

As far as who is going to take care of the babies, well it’s obvious she isn’t. And her reasoning is, “Why should I?”. “I’m not the one who had the sex!”.

Which is true. But why do so many black girls become pregnant and have no resources to contend with those consequences?

Simply put, people in poverty have very few resources for much of anything. Now, any social activity is geared towards the development of self esteem. And when all you can see as a potential for self esteem is sex, that’s what you’re going to do. Male or female.

Poverty is not something you can just brush aside as a factor. Some people can and they get beyond it. Most people can’t and that’s because they get BEATEN down by it. It hurts. It’s punishing. Demoralizing. Soul snatching.

Education might be the answer but then that’s a more complicated situation in of it’s self. Teachers don’t know how to handle children with even a lack of self confidence, let alone a lack of self esteem or value. They see children like that as losers and worthy of contempt. They give all the favors to the bright and smiling and happy children and see them as markers of their own success, more than anything else.

I know because I was one of those children who lacked self confidence and had no self esteem and contempt like that from an adult is not an easy thing deal with. It’s fearful. It only makes things 10 or 100 times more difficult, internally….

Externally, the other children follow suit. They treat you with contempt and consider you un-worthy, and demonstrate it in any variety of ways.

So, either Blackmiss62 has a superiority complex, which means she intentionally makes herself look self confident when actually she fears her true self being revealed to anyone, or she’s a narcissist with absolutely no sympathy for anyone and is incognizant of the inner suffering that goes on in the minds of all too many in our society.

About the best I could put forward as an education is that at about age 10 my reading interests began to evolve into psychology, sociology, criminology and theology. I can’t call myself a scholar but when I see something I haven’t heard before, I’ll look into it.

I mean, think about it, Ms. King is fighting a losing battle if she thinks picking a public fight with Planned Parenthood is going to win her any measure of success, since it is still a woman’s choice to choose to give birth..or not. Planned Parenthood didn’t put a gun to a woman’s head and force her to come in, nor do they solicit their services. A woman has to make it her business to approach them about termination and even then, it’s not that cut and dry. You do get counseling to make sure that is your final answer.

My problem with Ms. King’s approach is she is at the wrong end of the horse in trying to place it back in the barn. Isn’t it a lil “Johnny Come lately” to try and stop a woman’s final decision than to instead to create programs that help young girls (and boys) build up their self esteem and personal awareness…before they make the ill conceived decision to find it through unprotected sex?
