Shohan, 45, is charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a child. Youth Bureau Sgt. Joseph Kennedy of Connecticut’s police department’s said they found out about the assault on January 27 from hospital authorities when the boy was brought in for injuries to his face.

When hospital personnel interviewed the boy, he told them that his father had gotten angry with him after he failed to pay attention to what the president had been saying on the recording. He told police that Shohan had allegedly picked up a coffee mug and struck him across the face with it.

When police interviewed Shohan, he could not come up with a reason as to how his son had received the injuries to his face. Shohan’s behavior prompted investigators to obtain an arrest warrant for him. “The father ended up overreacting quite a bit,” Kennedy said.

Shohan was released after posting $5,000 bond and will be arraigned Thursday at state Superior Court in Stamford.
