According to the daughter of Mera, Mimi, a mourner told her to “put Mommy’s photo back” during the Queens viewing service. “She needs that when she’s dreaming.”

Mera and her kids were inside their Ozone Park home April 19th when husband Kevin Canty (pictured) produced a 9mm handgun and shot her 10 times. The bullets pierced Mera’s midsection, upper chest, breast, arm, and armpit, according to a source. She later passed away at Jamaica Hospital.

Canty, a former transit officer who retired last year after suffering a rotator cuff injury, claimed his wife was cheating on him. He was later seen stumbling around drunk when he was arrested on 97th and Centerville Sts. He had the weapon on him at the time.

The couple’s son and daughter were understandably disturbed after the shooting. “Daddy shot mommy!” they reportedly yelled as a neighbor took them to a bodega afterward.

At the service, the 4-year-old Mimi played tag with her 7-year-old brother inside a viewing room. Mimi was reportedly wearing a pink sweatshirt and pink leggings under a gray dress.

Canty is charged with second-degree murder. He is being held without bail and is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Bellevue Hospital. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years behind bars.

Mera was buried in Long Island.
