Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump‘s campaign was in crisis mode Friday evening after he was caught on a 2005 tape bragging about “making sexual advances toward a married woman, aggressively kissing and groping other women, and boasting that ‘when you’re a star they let you do it‘” reports The New York Times:

The remarkable recording, unearthed by The Washington Post on Friday, was made in 2005 on the set of a soap opera where Mr. Trump was making a cameo appearance. Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, was captured on an open microphone that he apparently did not know was recording his conversation with Billy Bush, then the host of “Access Hollywood,” with whom he was sitting on a bus.

Vox transcribed the tape:

The recording starts partway through Trump telling a story about hitting on an unidentified woman — unsuccessfully. “I did try and fuck her,” Trump said. “She was married. I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. … I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn’t get there and she was married.”

Then, Trump said, he saw her again: “Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony tits and everything.”

After the release of the tapes, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan appeared to distance himself from the nominee, just two days away from the second debate with rival Hillary Clinton, and nearly 30 days from Election Day. Ryan released the following statement on Twitter:

Clinton said in a tweet that the tape offers further proof that Trump is unfit to be president.

Meanwhile, Trump released a statement apologizing if the language offended anyone, writes The Times:

“This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course — not even close,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. “I apologize if anyone was offended.”

But CNN political pundits said on air late Friday that Trump needs to say more. Do you agree? Sound off in comments.
