The couple reportedly signed a prenup before they were married in 2010. Sources say that the prenup favors Carmelo way more than it does La La. Reportedly, it’s because the basketball player is raking in way more money than La La. He is in the middle of a $124 million contract with the New York Knicks and he’s accumulated more than $200 million in his career. In addition, he is a brand ambassador to Foot Locker.
Meanwhile, La La was earning money as an MTV personality when she met Carmelo and since then, she has built her resume as an actress, model, and producer. However, this still doesn’t put her in the same league as Carmelo.
Both parties could possibly challenge the prenup. With La La making less money, it would most likely be her. These challenges usually result in a settlement where the person with the most dough gives up more than required under the written agreement.
Another shining light for La La (despite the messed up situation) is a possible “cheating clause” within the prenup. If reports of Carmelo cheating on La La ring true, the she could end up with more money. It is yet to be confirmed if this clause is in their prenup or not.
Either way, our thoughts go out to both of them. Divorce is hard for everyone, especially if you are in the public eye.
