Mo’Nique must have Google alerts set up for director Lee Daniels, because whenever his name is mentioned, she starts talking.
In case you missed it, Damon Dash confronted Lee Daniels on video about an alleged two million dollars that is owed him for the movies Shadowboxer and The Woodsman, both films made before the director blew up with 2009’s Precious. “Two million dollars, bro!” Damon Dash nearly screamed at a Diana Ross concert. “That’s like working capital!” See the clip below:
In reaction to Dash confronting Daniels, Mo’Nique posted a video on her Instagram, saying, “Hey, my babies. I wanna thank y’all for sharing the love and showing me the videotape with Lee Daniels vindicating Dame Dash.” She then adds that she has Tyler Perry on audio and encourages people to listen to hear the mogul “vindicating not only me, but my husband — where that brother says we did absolutely nothing wrong and he would come up with it publicly, but he never did.”
She also adds, “And for the brothers and sisters who are coming in right now tonight saying ‘Mo, we are so sorry for not believing you and bashing you,’ I wanna thank y’all. But … if y’all can say y’all are sorry for it, when are the billionaires gonna take accountability and responsibility? If I’m not lying on Lee Daniels and I’m not lying on Tyler Perry, why ever would I be lying on Oprah Winfrey? Take a listen and see what y’all think.” See below:
In the audio, Tyler Perry does say the reputation of her being “difficult” has been unfair. He also agrees that she should have been paid for doing press for Precious overseas. He says, “I’m gonna call and find out what money is coming in from Precious, and I’m going to send that to you. I’m going to send that over to you. Whatever it is, I’m gonna send it to you.”
Mo’Nique also rips into Perry in the audio call for going Hollywood, saying, “You see, when you stepped away from Madea and you became Tyler Perry the billionaire, this is the conversation we’re having, saying, ‘What do you want me to do? What do you want me to say?’ You’re the brother that slept in your car and you needed n****s to fight for you to get you up out the goddamn car.”
Perry also said on the recorded call, “I don’t want you to feel, not one day, that you were mistreated, or that you were treated unfairly. Now, if that means that that’s what I need to do [send her money], you do that, and take it from a place of love.” Listen below:
Mo’Nique’s assertion that people think she is lying isn’t accurate. Most people believe the Oscar winner, they just do not agree with how she has gone about attacking people from Roland Martin to Will Packer to Sheryl Underwood to Kym Whitley to Oprah and many more. In case you forget, Mo’Nique called for a boycott of Netfix after being offered $500,000 for a comedy special. During a series of interviews and postings on social media, Mo’Nique ripped into various celebrities for not supporting her.
The Netflix boycott wasn’t too successful, especially after the Obamas signed a multi-million dollar Netflix deal.
