In a video that was published October 5, a gay, Latin Trump supporter verbally attacked a Black Lyft driver for over 15 minutes in New York City. The man, who identified himself as Robert Ortiz, used the n-word, mocked Black Lives Matter, cursed and got into the driver’s personal space. The driver, Shawn Pepas Lettman, remained admirably calm.

Ortiz’s temper tantrum appears to be over the music in the car. The passenger asked for music and Lettman said no. He called Lyft because he was “racially profiled because I’m not Black” and that the driver is “racist against gay people.” He also said he was an “American citizen that voted for Trump.” At one point, he says, “I’m not gonna stop talking you piece of sh*t. You’re gonna tell me to stop talking? F*** you. I’m gonna wait for the police.”

Lettman appeared to be ignoring Ortiz’s drama, so he called the police, saying he doesn’t know what to do if the driver “threatens my life.” He refused to leave until the police arrived.

After the video went viral, Ortiz was fired from his job at City MD, according to Instinct. Lettman was terminated from Lyft, but was reinstated. He started a GoFundMe page to help with the missing wages. Lettman wrote on the page,  “After the end of the video, I had to also call the police for myself expressing my concerns and fear of what will happen if I was not assisted.”

Thankfully, Lettman got his job back and was able to turn a horrible situation into a positive. His page has raised over $24,000.
