Due to Pastor John Gray getting slammed for purchasing $4,000 Air Yeezy 2s sneakers, you may have missed that he and his wife spoke out about the cheating rumors on Saturday. Last month, Gray claimed he just had an “emotional affair” with a “strange woman,” but she anonymously came forward and said that was all a lie.
Now Gray is saying she lied, which basically means he is confirming the anonymous woman is the person he had an “affair” with. A church mess.
Gray and his wife Aventer spoke to V-103’s “The Morning Culture” radio show in Atlanta and it was a lot of explaining and deflecting.
“The truth is I put my wife in harm’s way,” Pastor Gray said. “There was someone I knew for many, many years — all the way into my teenaged years… we were helping her.”
Aventer added, “Keyword: ‘we.’ Nobody even asked us! They do an interview with anonymous, and that’s what goes crazy!”
Pastor Gray continued, “It went from help to there was a place in me that never healed that surfaced. And, by the way, this was almost a year and a half ago. This important because people think it’s now? It’s not. Everything that y’all heard, my wife heard. Voicemails? She heard.”
He also blamed his “emotional affair” on his childhood, “Things that happened in my marriage, pre-dated my marriage. The brokenness in me happened when I was four-years-old. I was abused on the front lawn of 806 E. Mitchell. And so, from then until now, I’m still trying to find myself, and I’m still trying to figure out who likes me for me. I felt like people from back home knew me. Long story short, conversations became more involved. And instead of going to my wife, and my God, and my trusted counselors — I went to somebody else… being in the presence of someone, one time, but that does not mean I slept with her. I did not.”
In case you missed it, the woman, who chose to remain anonymous, said she ran into financial issues and “it snowballed into ‘I just love you so much. I always loved you. I always thought about you. I always cared about you.’ Then he was going through the stuff with his wife and he was saying how he didn’t like her, didn’t love her, that he was never attracted to her, that he only married her because she looked good on paper. His exact words were, ‘She don’t suck. She don’t f*ck. She ain’t never washed a pair of my drawers.’”
Listen below, which is around the 1:15:00 mark:
Back in January, Gray appeared to confess on stage that he did cheat, saying, “I had to bleed alone. And what’s strange is I traveled the whole world and the Holy Ghost showed up and people got saved and me and wife just kept smiling and nobody knew we were getting ready to get a divorce. Because as long as I kept producing, nobody cared what was happening at home. I started listening to the wrong voices and let some people get too close. She found out and she set it off, just like a good wife should.”
Aventer then grabbed the microphone and said, “And then I prayed for them and him and then the devil loses because what’s not going to happen is you tell me that I’m going to lose my purpose because someone whispered to a ’16-year-old John’. The devil is a lie. I’m standing with my husband and you can go on back to the pits of hell where you came from. Was I upset? Yes. Was I heartbroken? Yes. But, you better learn how to get in there for the… what’s the vows? Better and worst so when the worst shows up you don’t run away.”
She later shouted, “I put Scripture on that strange woman! I put Scripture on that strange woman! She don’t want it with me and she don’t want it with y’all, amen!”
See their sermon below, which starts around the 4:30 mark:
Gray has been slammed all over social media. Even Bishop Talbert Swan wrote in a since-deleted tweet, “Don’t let your husband tell you ‘it was an emotional affair and I never touched her’ after a yr long relationship that included hotel stays, shopping sprees, out of the country trips, paying bills, I love you vmails and buying her a BMW. He’s lying.”
D.L. Hughley even called him a “shoo booty ass dude.” Watch below:
