After Rand Paul revealed his views on Civil Rights to the nation, both the Republican and Libertarian party have been distancing themselves from him.
Despite his pedigree as the son of former Libertarian presidential candidate Ron Paul, Libertarian Vice Chairman Joshua Koch said Rand Paul has betrayed the party’s values with stands he’s taken, and they were considering finding a candidate to run for the seat.
“At a time when libertarian ideas are becoming discussed more in the mainstream, the last thing we need is to become identified with another right-wing conservative with stances so anti-freedom,” shares writer Christine Smith, who ran unsuccessfully for the Libertarian Party nomination for president in 2008.
When asked by John King on CNN if he “convinced [Paul] not to show up on ‘Meet The Press’ this past Sunday, to go dark for a little bit,” Republican Senator and Senate Minority Leader,Mitch McConnel said:
He’s said quite enough for the time being in terms of national press coverage
Many people have supported Ron Paul because of his stance against the wars and against support of Israel. Rand does not seem to share those views and his displayed views that would be considered “Neo-Con” by Ron Paul supporters.

But after months of a grueling primary, it is not yet clear where the younger Paul’s savvy campaigning ends and his true ideological impulses begin, particularly on national security and foreign policy. No one is entirely sure how to reconcile his more blistering critiques of the war during his father’s campaign with his more hawkish pronouncements – particularly on Iran as “a dangerous threat to the Middle East” and against closing the Guantanamo Bay prison – during his own campaign.
Rand Paul has also broken from his father’s views in his support of Israel. While Ron Paul has criticized Israel for their preemtive war on Gaza, Rand strongly supports Israel, which he made clear in a recent letter.
As a United States Senator, I would never vote to condemn Israel for defending herself.
Whether it is fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon, combating Hamas-linked terrorists in Gaza or dealing with potential nuclear threats in the Persian Gulf, Israeli military actions are completely up to the leaders and military of Israel, and Israel alone.
Finally, Iran has become increasingly bellicose towards Israel. Thankfully, Israel has one of the bravest, most elite military forces in the world. I would never vote to prevent Israel from taking any military action her leaders felt necessary to end any Iranian threat.
