One state trooper claims he saw Torres standing over a male around 10:30 p.m. Sunday and slammed her husband in to a guardrail. And when he managed to crawl from underneath the vehicle, Torres allegedly got out and tried kicking him to death.

Witnesses said the ordeal left them shocked, “[I] didn’t think something that crazy could go on down here, this is a family town,” said resident Anthony Johns.

“Probably mental illness — probably something clicked that switch and went beyond what reality is,” added Louvenia Streetbuie.

The 31-year-old victim, who was unidentified, was taken to Mary Washington Hospital with multiple injuries. Torres was then apprehended and charged with attempted first-degree homicide.

A police investigation has determined that the man was walking on the side of the road when he was struck.

The 21-year-old Torres remains at the Rappahannock Regional jail without bond.
