Trump Apologizes For Retweeting Insult About Iowa Voters

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Thursday apologized for a tweet that insulted Iowa voters after polls showed the mogul trailing behind retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson in the state that launches the nominating process. In a rare moment of decorum, Trump deleted and apologized for a retweet that suggested that genetically modified corn crops were creating “issues in the brain” for Iowa voters. He blamed an intern for retweeting the user @mygreenhippo after a new Quinnipiac University poll that shows Trump in second place to Carson in the early voting state’s Republican caucuses. Carson garnered 28 percent of support in the state, compared to 20 percent for Trump, the poll shows. And a Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics poll released Friday shows Carson with support of 28 percent to Trump’s 19 percent. Indeed, the apology means that Trump doesn’t want to attract the wrong kind of attention from Iowa voters, who could make or break his candidacy.

Hillary Clinton Shut Down GOP Benghazi Panel

After months of being on the defensive, Hillary Clinton on Thursday fended off 11 hours of hostile questioning from Republicans looking into the Benghazi attacks on Sept. 11, 2012–and, in the process, demonstrated a temperament that was nothing short of presidential. One Republican after another sought to trip up Clinton on a number of fronts, from her use of a personal email server, to the lack of additional security at the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya, despite warnings. But unlike her first appearance in 2013 when she showed exasperation and frustration, Clinton was the picture of resolve and cool. The 2016 Democratic presidential front-runner did not waver from her message: that the State Department under her leadership had acted appropriately and any suggestion that she stood in the way of requests for increased security were “very personally painful.”

Diddy Says There Will Be No “Vote Or Die Redux”

When asked if a voter registration drive started in 2004 would be resurrected for the 2016 presidential election, Sean “Diddy” Combs said no, and blasted the political process at the Revolt Music Conference in Miami, Florida over the weekend. “So Vote Or Die, and getting out the vote, those things [were] laid out there so people could understand about the process. We started Vote or Die, and the whole process was all full of sh*t. The whole sh*t is a scam,” he said. The music mogul, however, added that he wanted to “make it clear that he was not trying to turn anyone away from voting.” Read more.
