Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave his assessment of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“I know a con when I see one,” Bloomberg said to a cheering crowd of delegates last night at the Democratic National Convention.

He added: “Truth be told, the richest thing about Donald Trump is his hypocrisy. Trump is a risky, reckless, and radical choice.”

The billionaire touted the fact that he — like many others — built a successful business from nothing but hard work and a sense of ethics. By contrast, Bloomberg pointed out that Trump received a head start from his millionaire father and used questionable business practices.

“Throughout his career, Trump has left behind a well-documented record of bankruptcies, thousands of lawsuits, angry shareholders and contractors who feel cheated, and disillusioned customers who feel ripped off,” he said. “Trump says he wants to run the nation like he’s run his business. God help us.”

Bloomberg, who was a Democrat and a Republican before becoming an Independent, received a warm welcome. The delegates roared when he criticized the GOP and Trump. But they were clearly irritated when he chastised them for blocking education reform and for being too harsh on the private sector. Yet, there he was, speaking to Democrats just moments before President Barack Obama took the stage.

“I think it gives more credence to the idea that if you have money you have a voice,” Dianne Douthat, a Girl Scout leader and Bernie Sanders delegate, told The New York Post.

Bloomberg didn’t come to the DNC simply to slam Trump. He also came to support Hillary Clinton.

The former mayor said he has had disagreements with Clinton, who he said “is not flawless.”

“No matter what you may think about her politics or her record, Hillary Clinton understands that this is no reality television; this is reality,” Bloomberg stated.

He urged those sitting on the fence not to stand by and allow Trump to win the White House.
