I read some of the post and cannot believe some of these things were written by Americans. Maybe the reason many are not on their feet after four years is because we have been in a recession for more than five! People are losing jobs at an alarming rate, so in this big country where are they supposed to work. And another reason they might not be able to go anywhere else may be because they have no way to. Don’t criticize unless you have lost everything and suffered like these people have.

FEMA should be ashamed of itself and so should the government. The president has been in office less than six months, so the rebuilding should have happened under his predecessor. Yet, there is so much to be done before the region is restored. Get these people homes then move them in. Jimmy Carter and Habitat can only do so much. The US Government needs to step up!

The government did not destroy the levees. I’ve been in two hurricanes (Anne and Katrina). When water gets inside electrical junction boxes they explode I was near one when it happened in North Carolina. That was probably the explosion heard in New Orleans and would also explain why the pumps stopped working. Next FEMA stands for Federal EMERGENCY Management Agency. Emergency being the key word they are not designed for long term care, if they continue to support Katrina victims their budget will be insufficient for the next EMERGENCY. Lastly, the folks in those trailers have received thousands in federal aid already. How much more do they want in hand-outs. Some people will take as long as your giving and never try to help themselves. Sometimes you gotta man-up and make tough calls to help yourself. If that means moving to where there is work then pack up and go. There are federal work subsidies in the Katrina effected areas and plenty of construction jobs. They may not be glamorous but they beat welfare hands down. Unless you don’t want to lift a finger.

I don’t know if the government had anything to do with the levees “blowing up” or not. However, I watch HGTV regularly, and I see a LOT of new real estate properties being developed in New Orleans now, but NOT for the people who were swept away by Katrina. Put 2 + 2 together and follow the money…

after 4 years no one saved money? come on that’s a project mentality, I don’t blame them. the average salary of a person over the age of 25 is like $18,000 x 4 years = $72,000. and each family has to have at least one person of that age. They were getting additional funding and aids for food, clothes, jobs, and housing. so basically lets say in 4 years half of that $72,000 could have been saved, so $36,000 with the aid for housing a house could’ve been bought.
