Barbie is finally bringing the many shades and beautiful features of women from all backgrounds to its brand with the introduction of 23 new dolls.
Mattel made the announcement last week, CNN reports. While 17 of the dolls are already on the market, the brand plans to release the remainder sometime next year. Those dolls will possess eight different skin tones, 14 facial structures, 22 hairstyles, 23 hair colors, and 18 eye colors. Numerous studies and documentaries have displayed the impact Barbie dolls have on the self-esteem of young girls of color.
With many parents and teenagers creating their own line of diverse dolls, Mattel’s announcement seems to come right on time.

But the news doesn’t stop there. Barbie also announced the dolls will come with moveable ankles, letting users choose between sneakers, heels, and flats.
