Oxford, Mississippi, police officer Mathew Kinne has been charged with killing 32-year-old mother of four Dominique Clayton. She was reportedly murdered inside her home and her body was found by her children. Now there is talk of Kinne getting bail.

“A prosecutor told Lafayette County Circuit Judge Andrew Howorth he thinks prosecutors and defense lawyers can agree on ‘reasonable’ bail for Kinne,” the Associated Press reported.

The family of Clayton was outraged at the possibility of bail. Clayton’s mother, Bessie Clayton, slammed the prosecutors and judge outside of the courthouse, “There is no justice for Black people,” she rightfully said.

She also alleges the judge laughed during the hearing, “They are allowing the killer to decide his bond! That man came through the bushes while he was on duty and walked in behind my daughter’s home, put a bullet in the back of her … head and executed her. And they laughed. They should discuss with him what his bond should be? We need help in Oxford! We need intervention in Oxford!”

Local Memphis reports the family members said Kinne and Clayton were having an affair for at least a year. Carolyn Clayton, the aunt of Dominique Clayton, said, “He bought her car, he paid all her bills. Everything she wanted he got,”

They also said she tried to end the affair but couldn’t, “She cried for this man to leave her alone. He wouldn’t leave her alone. He rather have her dead than somebody else to have her,” Carolyn Clayton continued.

Local Memphis also reports, “Clayton’s son found her lifeless body with a gunshot wound to her head, Sunday inside her Oxford home.”

Earlier this week, Jeff McCutchen, interim chief with the Oxford Police Department said, “We want to assure you that we will not hide behind our badge. Our hearts go out to the family of Dominique Clayton. To the family, we thank you for your patience and your trust in us to see this through.”
