In her acceptance speech at the RNC, Palin quoted Westbook Pegler, when she said ‘We grow good people in those small towns with honesty and sincerity and dignity.’ She didn’t give the name of the writer however, perhaps for good reason. Westbrook Pegler attacked Roosevelt’s progressive policies that led the US out of depression and expressed regret that Roosevelt wasn’t assassinated.

He said that he hoped Robert Kennedy would be assassinated and that ‘some white patriot of the Southern tier will spatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies.’ Pegler embraced the term of racist for himself and called Jews Geese. During the Civil Rights movement Pegler said ‘clearly the bounden duty of all intelligent Americans is to proclaim and practice bigotry.’

Pegler was at the center of McCarthy’s plan to rid Hollywood of communist sympathizers which broke several laws of our constituition. Is this the Republicans new hero, he seems to follow several of the same guidelines of McCain and Palin? Are Republicans openly returning to their Fascist, Racist past? By quoting Westbrook Pegler, as muse it would certainly seem so.

Are Pegler’s small town American views the same as Palin’s? Is Palin an example of the good people that Fascists and racists like to see grown in small town. If Palin is a product of Peglers small town values, then the story of her calling Obama a Sambo are the least of our problems.
