"Scammers" are targeting the historic Black neighborhood of Sunnyside in Harris County.
The groups filed the suit on behalf of the Houston Area Urban League, Houston Justice, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and The Arc of Texas, representing thousands of voters across the state.
Voting rights advocates, including Stacey Abrams, founder of Fair Fight Action, challenged provisions of the law which they saw could strip control from local election boards and increase penalties for voting-related criminal charges.
