Every day Donald Trump is president, it exposes the glaring hypocrisy of white evangelicals. Now, 45’s former pastor (who knew Trump even had a pastor?) has broken his silence, and his saying the president is far from a servant of God.
“Numerous states introducing Bible Literacy classes, giving students the option of studying the Bible,” Trump tweeted Monday. “Starting to make a turn back? Great!”
There was some irony there considering Trump’s literacy skills are always in question and you would have to be delusional to believe he ever cracks open the Bible. There is already documented proof of the former, and Trump’s former pastor seemed to confirm the latter.
@realDonaldTrump‘s pastor for 5 years @MarbleChurch. I assure you, he had the ‘option’ to come to Bible study,” Pastor David Lewicki tweeted in response to Trump cheering for Bible literacy classes. “He never ‘opted’ in. Nor did he ever actually enter the church doors. Not one time.”
Sadly, Trump supporters will not care. Their agenda falls more in line with “white Christian dominance,” which sounds like something right out of Nazi Germany. A powerful piece by Greg Sargent for The Washington Post, titled “The walls around Trump are crumbling. Evangelicals may be his last resort,” argued that the demand for the border wall centers around 45’s white evangelical base.
Robert Jones, the head of the Public Religion Research Institute, told Sargent, “For white evangelicals who see the sun setting on white Christian dominance in the country, the wall is a powerful metaphor. Even if Trump loses support among other parts of his 2016 base, the data suggests white evangelicals may be the last loyalists standing by his side. As Democrats take control of the House and as the Mueller investigation advances, white evangelicals look to be building their own wall of defense around Trump.”
Trump won an entire election on white dominance, so clearly that would be his plan for 2020, even though, according to Forbes.com, 69 percent of Americans do not think the border wall is a priority and 57 percent do not want a government shut down over the wall. However, as Sargent pointed out, 67 percent of white evangelicals want the border wall.
Clearly, Trump is only president for certain Americans.
